Sales tax revenues are up across the state compared to the same time last year, according to Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.
“Strong sales tax collections continue in most major economic sectors in Texas,” Combs said in a written statement. “The strongest growth was from business spending-driven sectors including oil and natural gas, manufacturing and construction.”
In January, Combs distributed $531 million in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments, representing an overall increase of 7.3 percent from last year’s January disbursement. The average increase for Texas cities was seven percent.
In Hays County, Kyle saw an increase of 16.73 percent over last year’s January payment. Buda’s change was 9.91 percent. San Marcos saw its tax revenue go up 14.37 percent over January 2012.
Combs said that state sales tax revenue in December was $2.17 billion, up 9.4 percent compared to December 2011.
