Philip G. Savoy, 66, of Austin, died on Thursday, January 24 of injuries sustained from a fall.
Philip was an associate at Murfee Engineering Company, Inc. He had a long history of civic involvement at the state, county and municipal levels and continued to be active in the development of environmental and water conservation policies up until his death. He served on the environmental board, City of Austin, from 1979 to 1987, and was chairman from 1984 to 1987. Mr. Savoy is one of the co-founders of Take Back Texas, Inc., a statewide private property rights coalition, and was a co-author of Senate Bill 14, Private Real Property Rights Preservation Act, 74th Legislature, State of Texas 1995. His major projects were Circle C. Ranch Subdivision and Golf Course; Lake Point Subdivision; Rob Roy on the Lake; and Rob Roy on the Creek. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1967-1969 and was honorably discharged. His Commendations: Silver Star, Bronze Star with V Device, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with V Device, Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leafs, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Savoy is survived by his daughter, Nicole Berg of Austin; brother, Gerald Savoy of San Antonio; and sister, Angela Letourneau of Charlotte. Many will remember him as a great father, great family man, and a great friend. He loved sailing, fishing, live music, and being Texan.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at Harrell’s Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas. Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb 5 at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
