Sales tax figures for December reflect an upswing in revenue locally and statewide.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today that state sales tax revenue in December was $2.17 billion, up 9.4 percent compared to December 2011.
“Strong sales tax collections continue in most major economic sectors in Texas,” said Combs. “The strongest growth was from business spending-driven sectors including oil and natural gas, manufacturing and construction.”
Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their January local sales tax allocations totaling $530.8 million, up 7.3 percent compared to January 2012.
Hays County’s total was up 13.78 percent over last year. The county received $2.7 million in December 2012 compared to $2.4 million the prior year.
Kyle saw a 16.73 percent difference in a year. The city received $286,436 in December 2012 compared to $245,372 in 2011.
Buda was bestowed $349,765 in December compared to $318,216 the prior year.
All other cities in Hays County saw in increase in sales taxes for 2012 except for the city of Hays which saw a decrease of 48 percent.
