The Hays County Precinct 2 offices are slated to open in Kyle in February, though they have been conducting county business in the city in temporary buildings.

The Pct. 2 offices closed for good at the downtown Kyle location on May 30, 2012, as the city needed that space to house the police department. The county was leasing the old Wells Fargo Building from the city.

Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said his department will be moving in to their new headquarters between Jan. 22 -25, depending on when the phones and computers are installed and ready.

Hays County is currently building new permanent Pct. 2 offices on FM 2770, on the south side of Crystal Meadow Drive, across from Barton Middle School.  The estimated total cost for that projects is $4.35 million

The builders “have managed to excel under the very tight timetable that was provided to them. Through their hard work and dedication to this project, the departments of Hays County Precinct 2 will move into the new facility in mid-February. Many of the employees in this office have waited a long time to see this project come to fruition,” said Pct. 2 County Commissioner Mark Jones.

The new building was expected for completion about eight months after the Pct. 2 offices closed in downtown Kyle. Since June, the offices for Jones, tax offices, and Justice of the Peace Beth Smith have served residents from temporary buildings.

“As the Buda and Kyle areas continue to grow rapidly the (new) building will help each department to provide services for years to come,” Jones said.
