STEM applications and testing to begin soon
Applications are now available for Saturn V, a full-day Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) magnet program at Ralph Pfluger Elementary School (RPES) and Carpenter Hill Elementary School (CHES) for incoming fourth and fifth graders. Students from other Hays CISD elementary school may apply to participate. The program leaders are looking for four full classes of fourth graders for 2013-2014 (two classes at Pfluger and two classes at Carpenter Hill). Space is also available for several fifth graders at both schools. Students and parents must complete a short application, and students then take a qualifying exam. Students should bring their completed application with them to the exam, which takes about 45 minutes. The exam includes questions on mathematics, science, problem solving, and critical thinking. Students will be expected to do some computations, answer multiple choice questions, write and answer to an open-ended question and complete a multiplication grid.
The application and more information on testing is available at http://saturnvstem.weebly.com.
