DRIPPING SPRINGS — Down Syndrome Day on March 21 is being recognized.
The Dripping Springs City Council recognized March 21 as Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT) Day.
For more than 29 years, the DSACT has provided education and support to thousands of individuals, including families, educators and medical professionals, in the Down syndrome community. The DSACT also prioritizes public awareness to accept all individuals, including those with Down syndrome, for their uniqueness and abilities.
“The DSACT has positively influenced the perception of people with Down syndrome and the opportunities afforded to them in the Central Texas community,” the proclamation read.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused more families to seek help at the DSACT, executive director Jennifer Edwards explained.
“This pandemic year has caused our organization to grow as folks, both parents challenged by the pandemic and the upturning of the education system, have really struggled,” Edwards said.
Edwards added that the organization is proud to continue serving the community, despite the turmoil caused by the pandemic.
