With the resignation of Buda’s Mayor, the elections continue. This special election includes only two candidates, allowing people the opportunity to make an informed decision in a short amount of time.
Elect the man who listens to citizens and will carry out the vision they have voiced. Ron Fletcher, because of his years of direct experience with the City of Buda, formal education about city governments and his track record of working in the best interest of the citizens of Buda, is that man.
Ron began his service to Buda around 1999 when Buda formed its first Citizen Advisory Committee to collect citizen input and write a plan. I was on that committee. Ron attended every citizen input activity during that process. As a result, former Mayor Trube, appointed Ron to the first P&Z Commission where he worked to write our city codes, consistent with that plan and based on direct citizen input. He served three P&Z terms, serving as vice-chair his first year and chair every other year of service on that commission. He then served on the Home Rule Charter Committee, working to establish guidelines for how the city would be governed going forward. His formal knowledge was significant to establishing guidelines that citizens adopted in a landslide election. He became a city council member in 2008. Seeing other cities strained by a reduction in sales tax received due to the downturn in the economy and knowing that strong dependencies on unreliable sales taxes leave cities at the mercy of the economy, Ron set out to secure property taxes from commercial businesses that could simply be annexed into our city while residential property taxes could remain lower in Buda. In parallel, Ron has served on the Capital Area Council of Government and the Texas Municipal League where his networking has helped secure federal, state and county funds for Buda projects. He is retired from his professional life and has the time, knowledge and experience to continue to do great things for Buda.
