Kyle needs more animal control

Apparently the City of Kyle police department can afford to buy themselves motorcycles and unmarked cars to do whatever with. But they cannot train another officer to do animal control when the one they have is off duty. Today I called in two stray dogs sitting in my garage. One a 100 lb. pit bull and the other a chow/pit bull mix about 80 lbs. No collar, tags or any identification whatsoever. Fortunately they were non aggressive and seemed appreciative I didn’t chase them away from the shade.

The officer came and said they have no place to store them because the animal control officer is off today. It was also the second call about these same dogs from an area on the opposite side of my subdivision. So he told me to close my garage and go inside for a while.

My son has already been attacked by a pit bull in our neighborhood and the police handled it. He is not the only one either. So I find this pretty incredible that since there is a history of pit bull and dog attacks in general in Kyle the answer to the problem of stray dogs is for me to go inside and don’t come out because we don’t have that person working today.

I do appreciate the officers in my community and I am not blasting them. The one who responded came quickly but I hope he remembers the conversation where I said: “Look, I called you guys about this. If anything bad happens it’s going to be on you guys and no one else.” Then I went inside because it was all I could do. Since the officer’s hands were tied, I assume he went on with his patrol.

So remember friends and neighbors: If you encounter large stray dogs in Kyle on the weekend, know the police will come and do nothing. Not because they won’t, but because Kyle apparently has but one animal control officer and they are off duty on the weekend. The one part of the week everyone is outside the most. And if the animal decides it doesn’t want to be aggressive, you are the lucky one. It’s just tough luck for the next person or family pet who gets attacked because they decide to turn aggressive. Tougher luck for the person who has to shoot them if they get aggressive and attack because nobody could take care of the problem to begin with.
