Two granddaughters of one of Hays County’s most esteemed couples hope their sweet tooth, baking know-how and design prowess are the right ingredients for Buda’s newest business.
Sisters Amanda Rickman and Lindsey Finlay, along with Rickman’s mother-in-law Lee Rickman, are set to mark the grand opening of their Wild Flour Cakery and Boutique on Thursday.
Amanda Rickman, a pastry school graduate, said the company will offer high-end custom cakes, cupcakes, cake balls and other pastries, as well as breakfast items such as coffee and kolaches made with Austin-based Hudson’s Sausage.
“The cake balls are a hit,” said Rickman, who said she learned to make them as the first employee at Austin Cake Ball. “I just made them because I know how.”
Finlay also provides custom invitations, logos and other designs.
The sisters’ grandfather is D.J. “Red” Simon, the car dealer and namesake of a Hays CISD middle school.
Their late grandmother, Louise Simon, was a co-author of the definitive historical books “Clear Springs and Limestone Ledges, a History of San Marcos and Hays County,” as well as “Kyle and Its Surrounding Communities,” a collaboration with local historian Gene Johnson.
The sisters are graduates of Hays High School.
