Liquor lobbyists report $20K in campaign contributions

A local group lobbying to fully relax Kyle and Buda’s liquor laws raised nearly $20,000 from Jan. 10 through April 10, according to a campaign finance report filed with Kyle’s city secretary.

Plum Creek Development, the Buda Chamber of Commerce and Texas Hospitality Association accounted for about 85 percent of the total raised by Better Business for Hays.

The group, which was required to disclose its financial records 30 days before the May 12 election in Kyle, also reported expenses of $18,000, including payments of $17,500 to Texas Petition Strategies for managing its election marketing campaign.

In the race for seats on the Hays CISD Board of Trustees, all but one candidate announced they would not accept more than $500 in contributions or spend more than $500 in campaign expenses and so were not required to file campaign finance reports.

Candidate Holly Raymond reported contributions of $1,100, including $500 that she gave to her own campaign and $500 from L.C. and Arlene Smith, and expenses of $835 for signs, postcards and advertising.
