RODRIGUEZ
Sir Robert Rodriguez, a first-grader at Blanco Vista Elementary, was knighted into the school’s Royal Reading Society, a reading and service club. Membership in the society was earned by reading books; 10 for kindergarten through second grades, 15 for third and fourth, and 20 books for fifth graders. Rodriguez, along with about 60 other students, were honored May 18 at a special ceremony for their noble acts of compassion, friendship and scholarship. The queen, Principal Irma Flores-Brothers, bestowed recognition to students with her sword. Society members were knighted if they were caught doing a good deed for their fellow kingdom mates; Sir Robert returned his learning buddy’s jacket to him.
JOHNSON
Sir Skylar Johnson, a second-grader, exemplified the true meaning of friendship through extraordinary courtesy and was also honored for his eagerness to learn. Kaylin Vela, a fourth-grader, was promoted to Baroness — an honor given to students who performed some type of community service. Kaylin stayed late after school to help clean up the mess from a popcorn party. Librarian Kelly Posey coordinated the Royal Reading Society program. She said next year students will have an opportunity to join the “Sons and Daughters of the Nile” club.
