Kyle Elementary PTA Fall Carnival
Help Kyle Elementary raise funds for the school by attending the PTA Fall Carnival and Silent Auction this Saturday, Nov. 3, from 2 to 6 p.m. This will be a fun family event that includes many activities, games, refreshments and DJ entertainment, as well as performances by Dance Unlimited and Shock Dance. Challenge yourself to climb the 32-foot rock wall or go through the 40-foot inflatable obstacle course. Or try your hand at archery, shooting just like Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games,” minus all the drama.
Give a pint, get a cookie
Before or during the carnival, be sure to visit the Blood Center of Central Texas’ blood drive at the school; their slogan should be, “Give a pint, get a cookie.” They’re giving away free T-shirts to donors. Make sure you eat first and bring a photo ID. To make an appointment, contact Maricela Koopmann, (512) 773-3516 or email her at [email protected].

Lehman High School presents “Once Upon a Mattress”
Over 40 Lehman theater and choir students are proud to present “Once Upon a Mattress” at 7 p.m., Nov. 1- 3, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the LHS Theatre. If you thought you knew the story of “The Princess and The Pea,” this nutty and charming retelling is a musical comedy gem. Carried on a wave of wonderfully witty songs and delightfully brilliant lyrics, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again. This Tony-Award nominated show is that’s as fresh and funny as ever. All tickets are $5. Call (512) 268.8454 x8613 for reservations.
“Sordid Lives”
The Wimberley Players presents this black comedy about “white trash” – or so the promo reads. This raucous comedy with music is provoked by the bizarre death of Peggy Ingraham, the matriarch of a dysfunctional, working-class Texas family. Peggy’s daughter Latrelle is relieved that her cross-dresser sibling, Brother Boy, a dedicated Tammy Wynette impersonator, is confined to a mental institution. Latrelle’s sister LaVonda argues that Brother Boy should be released to attend the funeral. Latrelle’s actor son Ty realizes he can’t return for the funeral without coming out to his mother. Meanwhile, the sisters argue about burying their mother in her beloved fox fur, when it’s just so hot outside. A tale of larger-than-life comedic characters with touching humanity. The show runs Nov. 9-Dec. 2. Beware – this is a show for mature audiences only due to strong language and adult situations.
Texas Renaissance Festival
Friends, Romans, Countrymen…head east. It may be a bit of a hike from Hays County, but the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville is the nation’s largest, most acclaimed Renaissance theme park. The enchanted 55-acre village comes to life as all of Europe comes to pay homage to the King and Queen. This weekend, the theme is Roman Bacchanal. When in Rome, do as the Romans: seek wisdom from the Oracle of Delphi, toss a Bocce ball, enjoy a pasta eating contest and show off your Centurion physique or Venus-like beauty in the world’s largest Toga contest. A perfect day ends as Royal Fireworks burst above the festival’s lake. The festival is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Saturday, Sunday, and Thanksgiving Friday, through Nov. 25. School Days are Nov. 6 and 7.
