Fine Arts Festival this weekend

Chalk up another medal for 72-year-old marathon runner James Hill of Mountain City. Hill ran in the 36th annual St. George Marathon on Oct. 6 in Utah, which had 7,400 entries. The run is hosted by the City of St. George. With his soles to the road, he ran a time of 3:36:32, which gave him a first place win for his age group of 70-74 and broke a 12-year record for that age division.

Next week should be proclaimed Cecil Clark week in Buda! Mr. Clark will turn 100 years old on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Among the birthday activities taking place will be a family gathering at the Clark home on Saturday, Oct. 20. Friends are invited to stop by from 3-4 p.m. and have cake and ice cream and visit with Clark. On Tuesday, Oct. 23, Clark will be a guest at the County Commissioners meeting and on Thursday, Oct. 25, Clark will be honored at the senior citizens center in Buda.


More birthdays coming up with special wishes to seven-year-old Mikayla Rose Verver on Oct. 18; Katherine Callan on Oct. 19; Nancy Morgan on Oct. 22; Commissioner Mark Jones on Oct. 23; Betty Armbruster and Caryl Ploen on Oct. 24; and Genevieve Beard, Rebecca Hatch and Bob Lowden on Oct. 25.

The 9th annual Buda Fine Arts Festival is this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21 along Main Street in downtown Buda. Over 50 artist will be set up under the big white tent on the greenbelt and there will be live jazz music along with children’s art contest, students’ art exhibits, silent art auction, quilt show at Buda City Hall and food and drinks. There will be so much to do that you do not want to miss it.

National Friends of the Library will be observed Oct. 21-27 and the Friends of the Buda Library will celebrate by participating in “Boo-da Halloween” on Oct. 25. Stop by the library for information regarding the Friends and, of course, for treats!

The downtown Main Street will be the place to be on Thursday, Oct. 25, for all the fun activities and special treats for the annual “Boo-da” Halloween.  Dress up in your favorite costume and visit the merchants for a fun family time. For the safety of all, Main Street will be closed for this event.
