Free live music from a (sort of) local country boy
Bandera homeboy Charlie Robison takes the stage Sept. 12 at the Nutty Brown Café. The show is free, thanks to the KVET Free Texas Music Series (see, the word “free” is right there in the title). Opening act William Clark Green kicks things off at 6:30 p.m. Robison begins at 8 p.m. If you buy a VIP table, which is not free, by the way, you get a guaranteed seat. Otherwise, bring a lawn chair and enjoy the great outdoors while listening to a Texas music great. Did we mention the show is free?
“Once Upon a Mattress”
In this musical story of Princess Winnifred of Woebegone, Queen Aggravain and her son, Prince Dauntless the Drab, and his father King Sextimus, the fairytale “The Princess and the Pea” comes to life with lots of singing, dancing and hilarity. The queen doesn’t want just anyone marrying her son, so she sets up an eligibility test. King Sextimus is helpless until someone can break the spell that has rendered him speechless. Meanwhile, no one else in the kingdom can get married until the prince does. Will Princess Winnifred be the one? Presented by the Wimberley Players Sept. 14-Oct.7. Stop drawing stick figures
Instead, head to the Buda Public Library for a free adult drawing class. Local artist Zak Dennis will present the philosophy, history and techniques of some of the world’s greatest artists. Register at the library or call (512) 295-5899 to join this fun class, which runs from 6-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Annual talent show
Bring a lawn chair, bug spray, some water...oh, and the family, to enjoy the First Baptist Church of Buda’s First Ever Talent Show on Sept. 16. Sponsored by the church’s Young Again group (for folks over age 16, thank you very much), the evening promises to be a fun-filled good time for all ages. About 16 acts will include singers and comedians, and even Noah will make an appearance on stage. The show begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the parking lot.
