I want to start off by saying that I enjoy your paper, and read it regularly while on my lunch breaks (I’m a cardiac nurse at Seton Hays). I’m hoping you can help me (and many others) with a growing danger in Kyle, Tx either by bringing awareness or bringing change: the two-way, awkward access roads along I-35 need to be reassessed.
As Kyle grows, and more people move to town, the traffic is notably increasing. And, in my opinion (from personal experience, as well as witnessed accounts), it’s causing severe safety issues on the I-35 access roads. Namely, at the yield signs/highway entrance ramps of the two-way roads. What seems to be happening is people aren’t yielding to on-coming traffic. Drivers entering or exiting the highway are finding themselves in head-on-collision situations. Numerous accidents occur every month and victims are showing up in our ER.
In surrounding cities, access roads are one way: south-bound access roads on the south-bound side of the highway, etc. I believe this form of traffic movement is what the City of Kyle needs.
Last week (on Friday 13th, no less), my 16-month-old and myself were run off the road by a black Ford F-150. After they failed to yield, we found ourselves seconds away from a head-on-collision. We swerved and found ourselves in the ditch; the other driver never stopped. Thank God we were ok; the car was totaled. Thank God we walked away; but I know others haven’t been so lucky.
The last thing I want to do is complain. I think energy is better spent changing what can be changed. We love Kyle; and I want the people in this community to be safe. This is an easy change that can protect every commuter passing through. I hope it doesn’t take more accidents and fatalities for officials to decide to do something about this.
