Road construction crews from the city of Kyle and Hays County will take advantage of reduced traffic during the holidays to begin much needed repairs to Bunton/Goforth Road. Construction began Dec. 20, the first day that Hays County ISD schools are out for the Christmas holidays to minimize disruption of normal traffic on the road.
The scope of the road improvements on Bunton/Goforth Road include improving drainage, repairs, filling in pot holes, and generally improving the safety of the road from the IH-35 northbound access road to Lehman Road. These improvements are only meant to serve as a temporary measure until a more permanent solution is designed and funded.
Phase 1 of this project will be from the IH-35 access road to Dacy Lane. Phase 2 will continue from Dacy Lane to Brandi Circle and the final phase taking the repairs all the way to Lehman Road.
This project is being done through an agreement with Hays County and the city of Kyle allowing for the County to provide labor and equipment and the city of Kyle paying for the materials.
County Road Department crews and Kyle Public Works Street Department crews will attempt to complete as much as possible before school reconvenes on Jan. 7. The project may extend into January and beyond depending on weather and general progress of the repairs.
Detour signs will be displayed during each phase, allowing traffic an alternate route to bypass the construction areas. Road crews from both the county and city will be working diligently to minimize the inconvenience this may cause citizens.
“We appreciate the patience of our citizens that use this road as we work to improve a deteriorated roadway that is in desperate need of repair,” said Harper Wilder, City of Kyle Director of Public Works. “Please understand that we are only doing road improvements to selected areas and that allowable funds will dictate the limit of our repairs. This is not a total road reconstruction, but should improve the quality of the existing roadway until a permanent solution is available.”
