What? October already! Where did the year go? Good to have rain and cool weather at last, but not the rain on a football night, right?
Speaking of football, I had not been to a game for several years and attended the Hays freshmen games last Thursday, which I enjoyed very much. I was astonished to see so many parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents, with wheel chairs, walkers and canes enjoying the games. I don’t remember my grandparents ever asking about the school sports. Times do change and I am glad to be part of this change.

You may want to change your driving habits, by slowing down on our country roads. A few nights ago, a truck or car ran into several wild hogs on Grist Mill Road and three were killed. At least that is what seems to have happened. Parts of a car or truck were found in the ditch, as were three dead hogs. Hope no one was hurt. Several hogs have been trapped. With the corn and maize harvest over and the land plowed, the hogs are out foraging for food.

There will be plenty of food and fun at the Uhland Community Center, Saturday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Come join us at the Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Women’s Guild of St. John Lutheran Church. There will be a country store with a bake sale, cake walk, games for children and a chance to win a handmade quilt, a meat pack, box of cold sausage and other valuable items. Donors are Bon Ton Meat Market, Chisholm Trail Bar-B-Q, Martindale Gas Co., St. John Women’s Guild and others. See you on Saturday. Hope you will enjoy the turkey and dressing meal with all the trimmings, too.

Glad to report that Debbie Sorrells has been discharged from the hospital and is home recovering from a staph infection. We wish her good health. Chuck Wilson is hospitalized and recovering after surgery. Prayers and get well wishes go with him. Ed Daugherty attended church on Sunday morning and was doing okay as was Lois. Hope that continues.
