“Not Goodbye, just farewell our hero, until we see you again.” Glenn Reynolds, age 91, of Kyle, peacefully closed his charming, soft spoken eyes for the last time here on earth May 7, 2012. The heroic legend of the Reynolds family has turned the next page of his existence, one fulfilled life leading to another! Father of three children, two sons and one daughter, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one amazing wife of 68 years. Thank you Dad for instilling the strong beliefs and strength in all of us that we have built our lives upon. We will miss you and love you for all the wonderful things that you taught us and did for us.
Glenn was born on February 21, 1921 and grew up on a farm in rural Alabama, one of 11 children to a poor farmer. He went on to enlist in the Navy in 1939 and served aboard the Battleship Maryland and survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor, then on to North Africa and finally stationed in London where he would later go on to meet his beautiful wife Catherine McGale. Eventually, he would participate in the Korean War for two and a half years. After that, they would travel the world, and have three beautiful children. They ended up in El Paso, Texas. They later moved back to Glenn’s home state of Alabama. Then, in 2003 moved to Kyle to be close to their first born granddaughter, Ireland. His passions were reading, fishing, working on car engines, coin collecting, gardening and watching a great baseball game.
Many people have the fondest memories of Glenn as being a true southern gentleman. He told so many great stories about his war days, and the full life he and his wife had lived. He stands out in all our minds as a humble, kindhearted, strong-willed veteran with a positive outlook on life. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A memorial service was held at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church in Kyle on May 14, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked friends and family to send a tax deductible donation to www.diabetes.org or www.alz.org in Glenn’s name.
