The “un-official” start of summer is here! The Kyle Pool is still the best way to beat the summer heat. With the last day of school being May 31, the pool will open to the public at noon Friday, June 1, stay open till 8 p.m. New extended hours this year will keep the pool open till 8 p.m. each Friday. Weekend hours have the pool opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday the pool opens at noon and closes at 6 p.m.
Programs offered at the Kyle Pool include American Red Cross Swim lessons, TAAF Swim Team, certified water aerobics instructors, Family Night at the Pool (June 22), Movie at the pool (July), private party rentals and parties during open swim time.
Speaking of movies, the next Movie in the Park is scheduled for Friday, June 15. The movie is “The Muppets” so come early for a good spot. Bring a picnic and make a day at the park. All movies are at Gregg-Clarke Park and begin at dark.
What are the kids doing this summer? How about sending them to day camp? Kyle Parks and Recreation Department offers eight weeks of activities, field trips and fun times for children entering 2nd through 9th grades. Field trips include swimming, bowling, movies, Wildlife Ranch, planetarium, pizza and fishing. Activities include team building games, indoor sports and, of course, arts and crafts.
Once again, the Kyle PARD is offering the Challenger Youth Soccer Camp. Enroll your children in the nation’s number 1 soccer camp delivered by qualified British coaches and designed to improve skill level, promote a deeper understanding of the game, increase levels of health and fitness, and build upon personal qualities and to encourage lifelong participation in the world’s most exciting sport!
Let’s go fishing or hiking! Lake Kyle has new summer hours and is now open each and every day at 7 a.m. During the week, the park is open till 8 p.m. Bring your walking or hiking boots and make a trip around the lake. Washers and horseshoe pits are open as well as the picnic tables and climbing boulder. The fishing has been real good in the mornings, using real worms or plastic ones. Send us a picture of the “big one” you got in the lake to place on our Bragging Board. Wander through the nature preserve and make a list of plants and critters you see.
