Despite losing the election in November by 111 votes, former Buda City Council Member Cathy Chilcote is taking another shot at public office.
At the time, Chilcote said she was proud of her service to the residents and that she is looking forward to “being a civilian” again and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
In a recent change of course, Chilcote announced last week that she is seeking the vacant council seat that opened up after Todd Ruge was elected mayor in a special election this month. The special election was called because former Mayor Sarah Mangham resigned for health reasons in October.
Chilcote served on the city council for 12 years before being defeated by opponent George Haehn.
Since that election, Chilcote said in a statement that she’s been approached by many people who encouraged her to run again.
“Because of the outpouring of support I intend to offer my name to be placed on the Special Election Ballot to fill the seat to be vacated when City Councilman Todd Ruge, accepts the position as Mayor,” Chilcote said.
Chilcote also said, “The city of Buda will face many challenges in the coming months and we cannot afford to go back to the policies of division and lack of planning. In order to know where we are going Buda needs a voice who also knows where we’ve been and how far we have come.”
The election will be held Jan. 26, 2013. The filing deadline for candidates is Dec. 26.
Buda resident Wiley Hopkins has also filed for the Place 2 seat.
In order to be placed on the ballot for the election, candidates need to file an “Application for Place on Ballot” with the City Secretary’s Office by the statutory filing deadline.
