It’s fall festival time and that means it’s almost time for the Buda Fine Arts Festival, scheduled for Oct. 21-22 in downtown Buda.
Now in its ninth year, the festival will feature juried artists from across the state exhibiting fine art in media such as oils, pastels, pottery, glass, mixed media, photography, sculpture, acrylics and fine jewelry. All art displayed will be for sale.
Event organizers said there will be live jazz both days of the event. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the music.
Artists who present at the festival vie for awards in “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice.”
Each year, a featured artist is selected from those who apply to be in the show. The 2012 featured artist is Steve Green of Driftwood; he was the 2011 Buda Fine Arts Festival “Best in Show” winner.
Green came from Silicon Valley in 2007, after retiring from his high-level management position in the tech world. He started woodturning as a way to relax from the stress of the job.
Today, woodturning is more than a hobby for Green; it’s his livelihood. A member of several artist groups, this award-winning craftsman participates in many of Central Texas’ finest art shows.
The weekend will also include a children’s art contest, student art exhibits in the Buda Library, a silent art auction with proceeds going to art scholarships, a quilt show at Buda City Hall and food vendors.
