Mountain City Montage
by PAULINE TOM
There’s a new church building coming soon just a bit past Mountain City’s boundary. Kyle’s city council approval-stamped the building plans last week. Council members spoke words of affirmation. Construction starts soon across the street from Barton Middle School. Fellowship Church meets at Negley Elementary in Plum Creek, on the Kyle side.

New offices for Precinct 2 are coming soon just a bit past Mountain City’s boundary on this side of FM 2770, aka Jack C. Hays Trail, on the property with the large red house between the high school and middle school. Commissioner Mark Jones reports, “We have started on the building. They are getting the site ready for the temp building and the permanent. If you drive by you can see they have moved a lot of dirt. The house is to be moved off the property in the next few days. We should be in the temp building the end of May and the new building at Christmas.”

I hate to constantly give words of caution on snakes, so I’ll pass on Judge Beth Smith’s words:
“Lots of rattlesnake reports again all over the Precinct 2 area. Please again, watch where you are walking, reaching, etc.” By the way, did you see the report of the Steiner Ranch woman bit by a small rattlesnake while “rummaging through” her garage? Television news reported she would be hospitalized at least three days. Be careful. Be careful. Be careful.

In her email notification, Judge Smith went on to say:
“If you watch over the next couple of months of reports, you will see a pattern of criminal mischief, vehicle and habitation burglaries, and family violence issues. It’s a mixture of circumstances, but be cautious and aware of your surroundings and items left in your cars. Please have someone pick up your mail while you are on vacation as well. I have heard several complaints in the Kyle area of younger folks going through mailboxes in the middle of the night and removing mail. If you put out something to be picked up, please think about doing it in the morning, and not the night prior.”

Historically, May is our rainiest month. That’s good news, since a dry summer is projected. A dry winter was projected. All signs pointed that way. Thank God, the projections were wrong. Covering all bases, pray for rain and conserve water.

Diane Krejci attended the Buda Wiener Dog Races with two girlfriends. I guess we could claim her as the “Queen Mother” of the races. Mountain Cityian, she is ... contrary to news reports of “Budan.” Diane presented the idea of the races to the Buda Lion’s Club after she learned of the races in Savannah, Georgia. The idea was not well-received. This was the 15th year for the races.
KissMe ran a beeline in his first heat Saturday afternoon, taking second place. Mouth opened saying, “KissMe?!”, I missed snapping a photo. But, KissMe is not into racing like BoD. KissMe sat calmly as a spectator. With BoD, we always covered him and his ears while we watched, and still he tried to bark and squirm from our arms. (This year the old guy begged to go – to no avail.)
