Buda Library has much more to offer than just good books

Check it out

by GEORGIE CUNNINGHAM

Buda library books and services are very special for you and for the librarians. Based on an assessment of community needs and interests, librarians acquire appropriate materials and schedule excellent programs.

After starting many years ago with volunteers and several shelves of books in City Hall, the library expanded into its own facility on Main Street staffed by a group of highly trained library staff. The library now provides downloadable e-books, audio books, videos, and music through Overdrive to home computers, tablets, phones, mp3 players, and other digital devices.

ePrep provides training for students preparing to take the PSAT, SAT, ACT, PLAN, and SSAT tests. UniversalClass helps students prepare for the GED test. The library also has TexShare Databases and OneClickdigital available. For those who lack the knowledge and skills to use the new materials, the library staff provides assistance in getting them started.

In addition to best sellers in regular and large print and in Spanish, the library provides numerous newspapers and magazines, reference materials, interlibrary loan services, excellent story times for young participants, an exciting summer reading program with prizes and T-shirts, and a Boo-da Halloween booth for adventuresome young people. Toddlers who turn into teens will find special reading materials, computer access, game nights, homework help, writing contests, and programs to target their interests.

The Friends of the Buda Library help the library make these things happen. You too can help make it happen by becoming a member of the Friends today. Get a membership form by visiting the library or [email protected]. The non-profit organization exists to help the library help you.  Please join us in helping the library.
