Summer comes to an end

by KERRY URBANOWICZ

There are some indicators that the summer is coming to an end. The triple-digit temperatures are gone and the school-zone lights are flashing. At your Kyle Parks and Recreation Department, we also have some indications that summer is coming to an end.

The Kyle Pool will be closing for daily swim when school starts back on Monday. Meet your friends for the “Back to School Night” this Friday, Aug. 24, as the pool will be open until 10:30 p.m. The Kyle Pool will be open on the weekends and Labor Day Monday, but when the pool closes on Monday, Sept. 3, it closes for the year.

The end of summer is also the beginning of football. Your Kyle Parks and Recreation Department is once again accepting teams for the 8-on-8 Adult Men Flag Football League. Playing under TAAF rules, this league plays on Tuesday nights at Gregg-Clarke Park Sports Complex. Sign your team up before next Tuesday, Aug. 28. The season starts the first week of September.

With the end of summer comes the end of summer hours at Lake Kyle. The park will be open on Monday, Labor Day, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. for all who want to go fishing, hiking and picnicking the last holiday of the summer. Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4, Lake Kyle will be open under the fall season hours. Stop by the office and pick up a copy of the fall hours.

Also, while at the PARD office at Lake Kyle, get your 2012-2013 TPWD Hunting and Fishing License. For those who purchase your hunting and fishing license in September, the quickest and easiest way to get your license renewed is to visit Lake Kyle.

For those of you who went to the Kyle Pool, had a child in the Kyle PARD Summer Camp program, visited a park in Kyle, went to Lake Kyle before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. or on the weekends, drove down any road in Kyle, or visited any Kyle building, you need to join us in thanking our summer staff. There is no way the parks, pool, camps, right-of-ways, buildings and grounds could have been cleaned, staffed or maintained without these fine men and women. This year we had 45 summer part-time workers, tripling our typical staff, and as they find their way back to school, we want to thank them.

More details on these topics and other upcoming events can be found by visiting www.kylepard.com or coming by the PARD office at Lake Kyle locate at 700 Lehman Rd.
