Buda, Kyle see sales tax gains

State sales tax revenue in August was $2.34 billion, up 18.5 percent compared to August 2011, and Kyle is reaping those revenues.

Kyle sales tax receipts for last month total $287,653.83 compared to $202,591.79 in 2011, for a 41.98 percent increase. Kyle continues to see increases in year-to-date sales as well. This time last year, the city collected $2.4 million compared to $2.7 million to date, up nearly 13 percent.

“The strong business and consumer spending trend boosted the monthly sales tax revenue, as did money remitted at the close of the state’s tax amnesty which ended in August,” said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs. “The state’s sales tax revenue for fiscal 2012 was $24.1 billion, about 12.6 percent higher than the previous fiscal year. Collections from business sectors such as the oil and natural gas industry and consumer sectors including retail trade increased sales tax revenue for the fiscal year.”

Buda also found itself on the positive side of the allocation for this period taking in $287,653. Last August the city collected $247,101. Buda nudged up the yearly total from $2,585,080 to $2,598,062 for a .50 percent increase.

San Marcos received sales tax revenues of $1,924,669, a 13.73% increase over July of 2011 and a new record for the period.

County revenue in August was up almost 17 percent compared to this time last year. August sales taxes were $2,649,491 compared to $2,265,209 in August 2011. And year to date totals for the county also increased 7.22 percent up from $21,229,898 to $22,764,019.

Combs will send September local sales tax allocations totaling $559.2 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. September sales tax allocations are up 15.5 percent compared to September 2011.
