Buda residents approved 17 propositions for city charter revisions in Tuesday’s election.
The revisions included amending language on existing ordinances and clarifying others.
Proposition 1 to clarify that a “candidate for Mayor or City Council must be a qualified voter in the City at the time of filing for a place on the ballot” passed by 97 percent.
Voters passed Proposition 3, an amendment to to establish a procedure for the City Council to determine whether a city officer has forfeited his or her office and to remove such an officer by 91 percent.
The amendment reads: “If it is alleged that a Council member or the Mayor has forfeited office, the City Council may conduct an investigation to determine whether forfeiture has occurred.
If an investigation is commenced, the City Council must provide notice to the officer alleged to have forfeited office and provide the officer with an opportunity to respond. The officer subject of the investigation may not participate in the Council’s deliberation or action on the removal from office. The City Council may, by five (5) affirmative votes, remove from office the person found to have forfeited his or her office.”
Proposition 14, reducing the size of the Charter Review Committee from nine residents to seven residents, had the closest votes with 56 percent for the proposition and 43 percent against it.
Proposition 17, clarifying the election of a new council in the case of a disaster or enemy attack won approval by 91 percent.
