Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said this month that state sales tax revenue in September was $1.96 billion, up 11.6 percent, compared to September 2011.
“Continued strength in the manufacturing and oil and natural gas sectors led to the sales tax revenue increase,” Combs said. “Collections were also boosted by improvement in consumer spending at restaurants and retail stores. State sales tax revenue has now increased for 30 straight months.”
The city of Buda saw another boost in sales taxes last month, kicking its revenue for September 2012 up 2.14 percent from the same time last year. The city received $333,302, compared to $326,317 in 2011.
Buda’s payments to date are up slightly by 0.68 percent. This time last year the total payments were $2.91 million, inching up to $2.93 million this year.
Kyle keeps increasing its revenues. The city received $304,269 in September, compared to $269,860 in 2011. The year-to-date figures for Kyle are up 12.93 percent. Last year, Kyle had $2.65 million and has brought in $3 million this year.
“We’ve been extremely fortunate to have experienced continued development throughout the economic downturn and are currently experiencing an increased level of commercial interest,” said Diana Blank, Kyle’s director of economic development.
“The city of Kyle has and will continue to target retail development very purposefully in order to generate new tax dollars to support the continued growth of the community and ultimately lessen the burden on local property owners that they would have to endure without commercial development,” Blank added.
Hays County figures overall are still improving. The county received $2.8 million in September, compared to $2.6 million in September 2011.
Combs will send October local sales tax allocations totaling $551 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special-purpose taxing districts. October local sales tax allocations are up 9.1 percent, compared to October 2011.
