STAFF REPORTS
Each February, Girl Scouts around the world take part in projects to honor their Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in nearly 150 other countries.
World Thinking Day, as it’s called, gives the girls a chance to celebrate international friendships by learning about other cultures.
At the recent Texas Star Celebration in Buda, Hays County area troops each represented a different country. This year, the participating troops selected China, India, the Philippines, France, England, Egypt, Italy, Australia and Mexico.
The Girl Scouts received a stamp on their “’passport” as they visited each country where they learned facts about history, culture and even games played there.
Troop 782 chose India, according to troop leader, Susan Tennison.
The girls researched India’s history and cultural information and created a poster with information about what they learned. They also taught other Girl Scouts a game played by Indian children, Parcheesi – a simplified western version of the original Indian game called Pachisi. That game dates back to the fifth century and remains popular in India today.
