Mobile devices and video games have all but replaced the days of playing “kick the can” on neighborhood streets with friends, or just hanging out at a park all day. In fact, kids today spend just four to seven minutes outside each day in unstructured outdoor play (like climbing trees), yet more than seven hours each day in front of an electronic screen.
The Texas Partnership for Children in Nature, is a nonprofit coalition of more than 20 organizations in seven Texas regions. Members include educators, conservationists, health practitioners, policymakers and others who care about the issue and are working to implement the Texas Children in Nature Strategic Plan in their communities.
Friday, May 26 the Kids Outdoor Zone of Fellowship Church in Buda will host “Youth Outdoor Adventure Matters” camp out beginning at 7 p.m. with stargazing, music, smores and more. Saturday starts with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast and then from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. explore archery, shooting, fishing, outdoor skills, Dutch oven cooking, fireside coffee, hot dogs for lunch, games and more.
