Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in October was $2.03 billion, up 8.2 percent, compared to October 2011.
“The state’s growth in sales tax revenue continued to be led by collections from the oil and natural gas-related sectors,” said Combs. “We also saw strong consumer spending drive gains in retail trade and the restaurant sector as well.”
Hays County’s piece of the sales tax pie was better than the same period last year. The county received $2.5 million, compared to $2.4 million in 2011. That’s a 2.75 percent increase. The total payments to date are 6.68 percent above this time last year.
Buda did see a decline in revenues from last year, seeing a -12.72 percent decrease. The city collected $296,351 in October, compared to $339,550 in October 2011. As a result, total payments to date were down 0.71 percent.
Kyle had better news with a payment of $366,291 in October, compared to $334,179 in 2011. With that increase, the city saw total payments to-date rise 12.56 percent.
Uhland’s October payment was $6,825, jumping 44.70 percent beyond October 2011’s figure of $4,717. Uhland continues to do well, as the city’s year-to-date payments went up 9.45 percent.
Mountain City’s monthly allotment was down, but that didn’t affect its payments to date. The city received $556 in October, compared to $579 the previous year. The city is still on track with total payments on the positive side, with a 6.73 percent increase over the same period last year.
Combs will send November local sales tax allocations totaling $611.5 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special-purpose taxing districts, up 5.4 percent, compared to November 2011.
