Henry Paul Sawyer, Jr., 81, of Kyle, joined our Lord on April 10, 2012.
He was diagnosed with COPD, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, but was a fighter to the end.
Paul was born May 15, 1930 in Newport News, Virginia and was a 16 year resident of Kyle. Paul had many careers during his lifetime. He served in the Air Force as a reporter and wrote several USAF manuals. He was a published author, gifted musician and painter. Paul was an ordained Baptist minister. He was also employed by the Department of Public Safety for 10 ½ years, working at the Texas State Capitol Building and museum. At age 76, he ran down and captured a thief. Paul loved the great outdoors and enjoyed fishing along the bayous of Louisiana. Many of his paintings depicted Louisiana bayou scenes. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he met along his journey. He was a loving father, a dedicated husband and a faithful servant of the Lord. Paul is loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Henry Paul Sr. and Ella Mae Thompson Sawyer and his stepson Charles Suire. He is survived by his wife Johanna Roy Sawyer and his daughters Charla Sawyer Brown, Candy Sawyer Jeter and Crystal Sawyer Ross and stepdaughters Virginia Vice White and Tracey Suire. He has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service, in celebration of his life, was held on April 14 at the First Baptist Church of Kyle where he was a dedicated member of the church.
