School supply drives begin around town
Hays CISD is again asking the community and local business owners for help getting school supplies and backpacks for kids in need. Several backpack drives are happening around the community in the coming weeks:


Hope & Love 4 Kids – “Chick-fil-A Backpack Kick-Off,” 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 20 at Kyle Chick-fil-A. Anyone who donates a filled backpack will receive a free meal coupon. There will also be games and activities for kids. This drive also helps kids in the San Marcos ISD.


Kyle Chamber of Commerce – “Back to School Luncheon and Backpack Drive,” 11:30 a.m. July 24 at Blanco Vista Elementary


All donations of supplies or money will be used to help children with the most need.


Last year, Hays CISD assembled and distributed more than 100 backpacks filled with supplies for students in kindergarten through high school. Contact Angie Mendez at [email protected] or 268-2141, ext. 6078 for more information.


Hays High School Highsteppers holding fundraiser
The Hays High School Highsteppers are holding a BBQ fundraiser from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on July 21 at the Dance Unlimited parking lot in Buda. Each BBQ plate is $8. The money raised from the sales will go toward scholarships for Highstepper seniors.


French classes for homeschoolers registration begins
Middle and high school French classes for homeschoolers will begin this fall in Mountain City. Marjorie Kelley, a retired Hays High School teacher, will offer two French classes per week for students age 11-16 from August 27-May 31. Students will acquire skills in comprehending the spoken language, speaking with precise punctuation, reading and writing in French and appreciating world cultures. Spirit Night for Lehman High NJROTC coming up
The Lehman High School NJROTC Boosters are holding a community Spirit Night fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. on July 25 at Chick-fil-A Kyle.
