Holy cow! I sat down and really tried to keep my mind open and unbiased so I could really give each his due. But good grief, presidential candidate Mitt Romney whupped President Barack Obama like a rented mule. In five minutes I knew Romney had it all over Obama. Romney was like a sandstorm at which Obama hunkered down, closed his eyes and waited for it to be over. He’s waiting for someone to invent a pocket teleprompter. After 30 minutes I saw that caption above Obama’s head, “Damn, I need a cigarette.”
Obama was disjointed and mumbling. He could not express himself with any salient points. And I was hoping something was going to get said about the billions that Obama threw at soon-to-be bankrupt green energy companies, aka Solyndra et al. And it actually did come up, to the dismay of an embarrassed president. An hour later Obama’s caption changed to, “S.O.B., I think I just fouled myself” ... he looked that uncomfortable. He was like a poodle in the woods.
I sat down expecting to be bored stiff. After an hour I got up and made popcorn. I actually felt compassion for the president and needed a break.
Romney hit a big point when he insisted on energy independence. Look at what President Jimmy Carter’s baby, the Department of Energy, has done in contrast to its initial purpose – energy independence. It’s become a Frankenstein monster, a cancer whose sole function is to absorb 300 billion dollars per year; to grow and strangle its host, the taxpayer. Another was when he used the phrase, “trickle down government,” a hated concept for those who want the government to defend our shores, deliver the mail and leave us alone. Following that he criticized the crushing effect of overregulation on not just small business but all business. He spoke of federal departments having overlapping authority and his plan of trimming regulations which sap our American character of vibrant ambition and ingenuity. Many times to get a business operation off the ground a person has to have permits from three different government agencies for the same fixture or specification.
Tax reform is an urgent necessity and finally someone speaks of a plan for reform. George Bush, a RINO (Republican in Name Only), did nothing about tax reform. He just cut taxes and gave everybody who paid taxes a few hundred dollars but greatly increased government spending, hence our huge deficit. Bush did nothing to change the blood sucking code that makes us the joke of the rest of the world and causes jobs to go overseas to tax friendly countries. And Obama was fixing to make it worse in another four years. Read “The Fair Tax” book. It explains how it would be so easy to bring companies to America merely by becoming a tax friendly country. The boom in economic activity would bring a ton of revenue. Unfortunately, when asked about “The Fair Tax” book, Mitt hadn’t heard of it.
I can’t wait for another debate, hopefully one that covers foreign policy. I want to see how Obama explains Fast and Furious which I believe is an act of war against our southern neighbor. And how he signed an executive order quashing the investigation into Eric Holder’s part of that program which aided and abetted the murders of several hundred, if not thousands, of Mexicans.
I wasn’t satisfied that either candidate had any answers for the healthcare crisis, specifically the cost and the waste.
In conclusion, Obama could not defend his first four years because there was no way to defend it. And I don’t expect him to do better in the next two debates.
