Intangibles: It all comes down to Friday night’s game at Alamo Heights as Hays tries to make team history. Never before has any Rebel football team won consecutive district titles. The task will be tough. Heights QB Brockwell has thrown for 1,349 yards, with 16 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Running back Byron Proctor has rushed for 907 yards and six touchdowns. Receiver Cole Bailey has hauled in 10 touchdown passes. Heights has reeled off eight straight wins after losing its opening game of the season to O’Connor. Hays has a few question marks heading into the game against the Mules, as Champion was obviously able to put up a lot of points on a Rebel defense that had been rock solid all season. Also, just when it looked like Hays receiver/running back Taven Mayberry might break the school’s single-game rushing record, he suffered an ankle injury. Mayberry’s status is uncertain and the Rebel offense will be much less potent if he can’t play. Hays QB Caleb Kimbro, who has accounted for more than 2,100 total yards and 24 touchdowns this season, will have to have one of his best games of the season. The Rebels will be out to not only win a district title but to avenge their only district loss of 2011, which came against the Mules at Shelton Stadium.
