More than 50 people, including community leaders, local government officials and representatives from the Wimberley Chamber of Commerce and the local medical community, gathered for the official groundbreaking event on Nov. 8 for the Wimberley Medical Plaza, a new medical office development with two buildings totaling 25,400 square feet that is slated to begin initial operations in summer of 2013.

The new medical facilities will be located at the corner of Old Kyle Road and FM 3237 in Wimberley. Once complete, the Wimberley Medical Plaza will serve the health care needs of the Wimberley Valley communities through one location. Live Oak Health Partners (LOHP), a primary and specialty care physicians group of Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), will anchor the first of the two buildings, along with CTMC lab and X-ray services. Dr. Eric Price, a primary care physician with Live Oak, will relocate his existing Wimberley-based practice to the new location, and several additional LOHP specialists will rotate through additional offices in the plaza to bring more specialty care directly to the community.

“This is such a wonderful day for the residents of and visitors to the Wimberley Valley,” said Linda Germain, chair of the Wimberley Chamber of Commerce board. “Our community and chamber have enjoyed the support of CTMC and Live Oak Health Partners for a number of years. We are delighted to be welcoming a much larger presence and look forward to watching the plaza develop and help draw other much-needed medical providers to serve our community,” she added.

CTMC CEO Sam Huenergardt was among the guest speakers at the brief event who praised developer Robert McDonald and the city of Wimberley for working so well together to create a beautiful set of buildings that will sit within a wooded setting to maintain the beauty and unique nature of the Wimberley community. Among the unique features are stone and rough-hewn wooden facades, metal roofs and a rainwater reclamation system that will be incorporated into the plaza’s main sign.
