SHACKELFORD
STAFF REPORT
The company that operates a limestone quarry near the Ruby Ranch subdivision outside of Buda has been sold to a national acquisitions firm.
Washington, D.C.-based Summit Materials purchased KBDJ, the operator of the Hays County quarry, in November.
KBDJ President Jill Shackelford and her management team will remain in place, a spokesman said Summit Materials also bought Shackelford’s other company, Industrial Asphalt, and two additional asphalt and paving companies in Central Texas. Asphalt Paving, led by Joseph Jackson is based in Austin and is a longstanding paving business. Ramming Paving Company is a quarry, asphalt, and paving services company with operations in Austin and San Antonio. All the management teams will remain in place and will continue developing the businesses under Summit management, according to a news release.
Industrial Asphalt is based in South Austin and operates the KBDJ Quarry and two asphalt plants. The company produces roughly 700,000 tons of asphalt for the greater Austin area and provides road base, house pad material and environmental protection stone to the Hays County area.
The company has a 50-year lease with the property owner to mine the limestone and is permitted to produce three million tons of materials per year.
Summit was formed in 2009 to acquire businesses in the aggregates and heavy-side building materials sectors and has completed 20 acquisitions around the country.
