The Hays High School Marine Corps JROTC held its 17th annual Awards and Change of Command Ceremony at the Performing Arts Center on May 8. Twelve of the Rebel Battalion’s four-year cadets received the “Far Winds and Following Seas” wish.
The coveted “Semper Fidelis Award” went to Cadet Colonel Jenna Kadjar, one of the graduating four-year cadets and outgoing Rebel Battalion Commander.
Community service efforts were also recognized, representing over 3,000 hours of program-sponsored work and additional funds raised for the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.
Other announcements included the cadets’ annual Make-A-Wish Foundation contribution of $4,300 for a 4-year-old in Buda.
Kadjar closed out the evening with the “passing of the colors,” relinquishing her command to the 2012-13 Battalion Commander, Cadet Major Ryan Moore.
The group anticipates 116 cadets in the coming year, roughly half of those returning for their second, third or fourth year, as cadets.
