Back in the writing saddle

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Well, how is everybody? Seems like old times to be writing Odds & Ends, hope I am still welcome.

First of all, our family and I wish to thank all (I may have thanked some of you) for the cards, phone calls, visits, beautiful flower arrangements, food, attending the service and the reception for our “Dad” “Opa” brother and husband, Raymond Heideman. Also the memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church, charity of your choice and the Veterans Memorial Wall in the Uhland Community Center. Thanks also to the St. John Women’s Guild and members of the family and friends who helped in many ways to make the service indeed “memorable.”

Speaking of “thanks,” Bobby Jean Hagedorn was honored by members of St. John Lutheran during church services on Sunday, March 18. Besides a bouquet of red roses and a plaque from the members, she also received a candle sculpture depicting years of service, made by Jerry Hall, vice president of St. John consistory. President Charles Orn presented the other gifts and words of appreciation along with Rev. Roger Hotopp. Oh, by the way, Bobby Jean has played the organ and piano (not regularly at first) since she was in the confirmation class, that’s been 60 years ago? Thanks, Bobby Jean, you deserved every “thanks” you received for all those years of faithful service.

Someone else in the Uhland community is thankful, that is Keith and Polly Mock. The goat that won the Grand Champion in the Houston Stock Show came from the Mock’s herd of goats. Congratulations to the Mocks and to the youngster who showed the goat.

Rainey and Cooper Moore also participated in the Houston Stock Show. Cooper won first place with his Hampshire in the market class. Rainey showed a Duroc and won seventh place in the market class.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Timothy J. Louviere of Uhland who passed away on March 2. Friends and co-workers of Tim’s spoke of losing a friend, as well as a hard worker on the job, for his church and family. His family, friends and all who knew him will miss him.
