When Scott Grundy entered a room, people smiled. Like as not, they laughed as he grabbed them in his huge bear hug – like Scott, a little larger than life.
His zest for life was evident in his grin and his out-sized corny jokes that matched his broad chest. Every friend who touched his life became an important grandfather, mother, brother, sister, daughter or son.
Scott, 62, died of a heart attack on Friday, May 14, 2010, leaving behind his beloved family and many friends throughout the world.
Scott lived and loved in Buda, Venezuela, Austin, Germany, San Antonio, Laredo, Houston, Llano and Richmond, Texas. He loved the outdoors of Texas and his Texas heritage. He was a hunter, a “restorer,” an outdoorsman. He loved driving the back roads of Texas, looking for an old house to renovate.
His love of history led him to a knowledge and love of artifacts and architecture. He was passionate about fixing up old houses, and many homes across Texas were restored with his loving touch.
His own house was always filled with animals – his old dogs, the turtles, and birds. Scott grew up traveling the world, growing up in Venezuela and Germany. From these early travels grew a love of different lands and cultures.
An only child, Scott leaves behind the loves of his life – his wife, Donna; his sons, Hunt and Collin and, his father “Poppy” Robert (Bob) Grundy; as well as family and friends. His mother, June Barge Grundy preceded him.
The family lived for years in Hays Country Oaks near Buda while Hunt and Collin attended Hays schools. They moved to Richmond, but were recently in the process of moving back “home” to Hays County.
A memorial service honoring Scott’s life will be held at 2 p.m. at Hyde Park Christian Church, Austin on Thursday, May 20. On Sunday, May 23, a memorial will be held in Richmond, Texas.
