Lehman boys take road romp to Wimberley

STAFF REPORT

Early voting is currently underway to elect Kyle’s next council members and a new Hays CISD school board member.

Jason Welch, a 33-year-old AT&T sales manager, and Diane Hervol, a 48-year-old legal administrator, are vying for the city council slot. The seat opened after former council member Michelle Lopez resigned to make a bid for the mayor’s seat against Lucy Johnson.

Brad Pickett, a financial manager, is on his own for the Kyle city council seat being vacated by council member David Salazar, who did not seek a third term in office.

On the Hays CISD board of trustees, Austin police supervisor Joe Munoz, 52, and Driftwood computer consultant Marty Kanetzky, 53, are battling to represent District 5. Trustee Ralph Pfluger did not seek re-election.

The district covers a wide area in the western part of Hays CISD including Driftwood, Mountain City, Plum Creek and Buda’s western neighborhoods around Garlic Creek.

Munoz served for more than a decade as a school board member representing District 2 until he resigned in September when he moved residences.

Early voting began Monday and runs through May 4. Voting locations are Kyle City Hall, Buda City Hall and the Hays CISD Administration Building in Kyle. The latter two locations are just for the school board election.

Early voting will be weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at all locations and Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Kyle City Hall and Buda City Hall polling places. Additionally, early voting on Monday, May 3 will be available until 7 p.m. at all three locations.

Election Day is May 8, with the polls open from from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. Although voters can cast a ballot at any polling place during early voting, they must vote at their designated polling place on election day.
