San Marcos power-pitcher Blake Bagley was as good as advertised and the Lehman Lobos were no match for the senior in their home debut.
Bagley scattered four hits and struck out seven Lobos as the Rattlers pounded Lehman 18-1 on Tuesday night at Lobo Field.
“Bagley is an outstanding pitcher and he was better tonight than he was against Hays last week,” Lehman head coach Toby Robinson said. “On top of that, they really pounded the ball tonight. It was definitely not a good night for us.”
District-leading San Marcos battered Lobos’ pitching, as they scored four runs in both the first and second innings before adding ten more runs in the third.
The Rattlers improved to 3-0 in District 17-4A.
Flores’ towering home run in the fourth inning served as the lone score of the game for Lehman.
“We really couldn’t get anything going,” Lehman senior Tre Abeita said. “They hit the ball well and we just couldn’t hit tonight.”
Robinson will be taking his troops back to the drawing board as they now face the inevitable task of rebounding from an 0-2 district hole.
“We just need to get better in all phases of the game,” said Robinson. “When you continue to commit errors and the other teams are playing as well as San Marcos did tonight, it makes it very hard to win.”
The Lobos will have a pair of road games with Del Valle and Elgin before returning home to face district rival Hays on April 1.
“At this point we can’t worry about who’s coming up on the schedule,” Robinson said. “We just have to continue battling and try to get some wins. There’s no question I think we’ll start to play better.”
