STAFF REPORT
Voters will pick two new Kyle City Council members and a Hays CISD trustee in an election on Saturday. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Jason Welch, a 33-year-old AT&T sales manager, and Diane Hervol, a 48-year-old legal administrator, are vying for the city council District 1 slot. The seat opened after former council member Michelle Lopez resigned to make a bid for the mayor’s seat against Lucy Johnson.
Brad Pickett, a financial manager, is on his own for the Kyle city council seat District 3 being vacated by council member David Salazar, who did not seek a third term in office.
On the Hays CISD board of trustees, Austin police supervisor Joe Munoz, 52, and Driftwood computer consultant Marty Kanetzky, 53, are battling to represent District 5. Trustee Ralph Pfluger did not seek re-election.
The district covers a wide area in the western part of Hays CISD including Driftwood, Mountain City, Plum Creek and Buda’s western neighborhoods around Garlic Creek.
Munoz served for more than a decade as a school board member representing District 2 until he resigned in September when he moved residences.
Voters on Saturday must vote at their designated polling place. Some Kyle voters may have to go to separate polling places to cast a ballot in each election.
