Regional flooding became an issue over the last few years, and the Lower Colorado-Lavaca Regional Flood Planning Group will be holding a virtual meeting to inform citizens of developments.

Hays County, like many others, is split between two different regions. Region 10 includes north and west Hays County.
In 2019, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 8 directing the creation of the first-ever State Flood Plan for Texas. The plan, to be prepared by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), will follow a similar region-driven, bottom-up approach that has been used for water supply planning (State Water Plan) in Texas for the past 20 years.
Fifteen flood planning regions have been established, each of which is overseen by a Regional Flood Planning Group (RFPG) comprised of appointed members representing various interests (e.g., municipal, county, industry, agriculture, environmental, etc.).
The overarching goal of regional flood planning, and the comprehensive State Flood Plan that will result from plans created by each region, is to protect against loss of life and property from flooding.
