April can seem like the busiest month of the year. Friends come together, crack jokes, and laugh away on April Fool’s Day. Kids gather up their baskets and journey out to find the most eggs during the Easter holiday. Then there is also that stressful time in April to make sure that your taxes are filed on time. All of these events are important, but there is one day that is sometimes overlooked or even forgotten. Administrative Professional’s Day occurs on a Wednesday in the last full week of April. It is a day for businesses and organizations to thank their staff and show appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
Formerly known as Secretary’s Day, Administrative Professional’s Day is an unofficial secular holiday that recognizes the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals. It started back in 1955 when Harry F. Klemfuss, a New York Publicist, wanted to encourage more people to consider careers in the administrative support field.
While working closely with the International Association of Administrative Professionals, a day was finally recognized for these devoted individuals. Even though Administrative Professional’s Day has been through numerous name changes, it still represents the idea to celebrate and show your appreciation for the work ethic of these professionals.
It is important to recognize administrative professionals because they do so much in their field of work. They are heavily relied on to organize and accomplish daily tasks while managing a busy office. These professionals do not receive credit like they should for working as hard as they do.
Some give their administrative professionals flowers, candy or even the day off. What better way to show your appreciation to the administrative professionals in your office than to bring them to the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon on April 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. The Inn Above Onion Creek will be providing a gourmet meal for all that attend. Cost for the luncheon is $15 if you RSVP by April 23 to the Kyle Chamber. The cost is $20 the day of the luncheon. Members of the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce and their staff receive a $5 discount. To RSVP, call the Kyle Chamber at 512-268-4220, register online or email us at [email protected].
