Canyon Lake’s Danielle Carpenter scored four goals as the Lady Hawks used a first-half eruption to rout Lehman 7-3 and keep the Lady Lobos winless in District 51-4A play.

Carpenter got the Lady Hawks off to a 2-0 lead after scoring goals on a pair of assists from Michelle Roberts and Megan Jacobs.

“We just weren’t as focused as we needed to be and they jumped on us,” Lehman head coach Nauri Garcia said. “It puts us in a tough situation because that was definitely a game we needed to win if we wanted to make the playoffs.”

The Lady Hawks added to their 5-2 halftime advantage soon after the second half began with Carpenter banging in her fourth goal of the night on a breakaway run with an assist from teammate Syndi Hubnik to increase the Canyon Lake lead to 6-2.

Roberts, Hubnik and Noelle Riordon also got into the scoring column for the Lady Hawks (7-5-3, 3-2-1 51-4A).

Seniors Rebekah Johnson and Dominique Jaquez both had goals for Lehman.

Lehman also lost a close game to district rival Wimberley on the road with the Lady Texans scoring a goal midway through the second half to secure a 2-1 win.

Both losses kept Lehman out of the district win column after a promising start in which they opened the campaign with a pair of ties against San Marcos and rival Hays.

“We have been battling through some injuries and we just got one of our key players back on a full-time basis, so we’re still trying to find a rhythm as a team,” said Garcia. “If we’re going to have a chance to make the playoffs we have to find a way to get some wins. But I know our team isn’t going to give up and we will go out there and try to finish the season strong.”
