Abhorrent thievery

Mt. City Montage

by PAULINE TOM

The deadline for an Easter-themed “Montage” bunnyhopped right past me.

Trucksucking mud went after my Sierra… and, a friend’s larger truck… and, another friend’s monster truck with 4-wheel drive. Out in the beautiful moonlight, days after the most recent rain, nine folks and three trucks… stuck.

A Fellowship at Plum Creek elder suggested singing hymns, like Paul and Silas. “Oh, the wonderful cross” wafted across the sucking sod. We glorified His name… but, no change in the stuckedness.

Two hundred and eighty pounds of a very dry, expanding material (kind of like kitty litter), toted in 40 lb. bags on shoulders (by moonlight) went to waste. The next morning, “Montage” composition time, a tractor released the three vehicles – out on the undeveloped land where I “NestWatch” nestboxes.

The deadline-busting adventure happened about one-half mile east of 2770, the old boundary of Mountain City’s ETJ (extra territorial jurisdiction).

About this time 2002, Plum Creek/Benchmark obtained the single city jurisdiction they needed through an agreement Mountain City made with Kyle, whereby Mountain City’s city limits extend eastward with a narrow strip of land directly across 2770; and, Kyle’s jurisdiction extends to that boundary. Pre-agreement, about 450 acres of the Plum Creek Master Planned Community (2200 acres) fell in Mountain City’s ETJ.

About this time 2002, “Montage” chit-chatted:

“There was little input from the citizenry on the recent “Plum Creek” decision. Time after time public hearing notices were posted and topics related to the decision were on the agenda for a year or two – and it was mentioned frequently in this column.

It is frustrating to the council to have so little citizen involvement on decisions large and small.”

Eggsceptional coordination by Tiffany Curnutt, “Mountain City Born & Bred”, produced a memorable Mountain City Fun Easter Egg Hunt. She handed out the grand prize winner baskets (donated by Beth & Everett Smith) to Jayden Brownlow (ages 0-2); Mark Williams (ages 3-6); and, Sam Williams (ages 7-11).

Tiffany sends word, “Thank you so much to everyone who had anything at all to do with the Easter Egg Hunt! Donations included eggs, candy, prizes, time and money! All of these were much appreciated! We are striving to make sure that the Easter Egg Hunt is a completely free event for the residents of Mountain City and appreciate all that citizens do to help reach this goal.”

Remember to recycle plastic eggs in the bin on the (old) City Hall front porch this week.

And remember to recycle tidbits. Email [email protected] or leave a message at 512-268-5678.

Remember Jesus Christ. He is risen!

Thanks! Love, Pauline
