Have you noticed a group of women working on the grounds of the Buda Library this spring, pruning, weeding and raking?
Six Buda residents are attending the Master Gardener volunteer development program put on by the Hays County Texas AgriLife Extension Service in San Marcos. To earn the title of Master Gardener a trainee must complete 50 hours of instruction, pass an examination and volunteer a minimum of 50 hours of service. All volunteer projects must be approved by the Extension Service.
The women prepared a plan to clean up and maintain the plants at the library, which were originally donated by Girl Scout Troop No. 315. The volunteers plan to spread mulch over the beds to help keep down the weeds and conserve water. The shrubs are native or adapted plants that thrive in our Central Texas environment with no need for fertilizer or pesticides. Volunteers, who work inside and out, are an important part of making our library a welcoming place.
Many volunteers offer their talents for a variety of projects to enhance our library. The Friends of the Buda Library members help with book sales, author visits, children’s activities, fundraising and much, much more. Join Friends of the Buda Library: [email protected]
