Hays High School students are painting the town red – actually, make that yellow and white – for a good cause. The group of community-minded students took on a service project this March, painting the home of Buda resident Juan Arreguin.
Hays High School Counselor Kathy Arendt and her husband Steve, a director with Glidden Paint Company, worked with Hays High School Student Council sponsor David Bowe to organize the project, with the help of Hays High Communities in Schools staff.
The student council created a logo and slogan, “4 Ps – People Painting People’s Places,” and ordered t-shirts for volunteers. Glidden Paint employees worked in advance of the painting to prep the home and do light carpentry repairs.
On Saturday morning, 11 Glidden Paint employees and two employees of the local McCoy’s Building Supply, Gloria Gonzales and Gretchen Bond, helped the 15 student council members and sponsors put a beautiful fresh coat of paint on the Arreguin family home.
Hays High School students taking part in the project included Isaac Hemby, Ashton Pettit, Amanda Pettit, Jessica Colonnetta, Casie Lomeli, Sara Cervantes, Mariah Meza, Rachel Sony, Bridgett Garraway, Tyler Cullen, Tyler McComb, Aubrey Wallgren, John Walyron, Daniel Acosta, Heidi Casas and Andrew Bishop.
