Hays Dispute Resolution Center offers mediation training

I feel it is very important to get to know our candidates well as they  are elected to both represent our interests and serve us. I have had  the privilege of knowing Diane Hervol (City Council Candidate for  District 1) for six years, and would like to share some of my  experiences so others might get to know more about her as an individual.

When I first met her I was a state employee who commuted to Austin and  whose work kept me away from home for days at a time. I had little  contact with my neighbors or time for concerns before our city. This  all changed when I met Diane because she was determined to build  community in our neighborhood. While she walked her dog, she made friends and introduced neighbors to one another and invited them to community events, etc.

Our friendship was cemented after the birth of my first child. Being  new to motherhood and spending many hours alone at home with my child, she volunteered to keep us company during the long evenings while my husband went to school after work. Her concern for others, her commitment to her work, her family, and her community left a deep impression on me. Her actions over the years have shown me that she is particularly sensitive to the needs of our most vulnerable: children, seniors, the disabled, and our four-legged friends.

I commend Diane for serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission for two terms, and for successfully completing the Kyle Leadership Academy while balancing a demanding career and being so involved in our community.

It is rare to find a public servant who leads with both their head and their heart. We are fortunate to have such an individual running for office, and I encourage you to vote for Diane Hervol so that she may continue to lead our city through this time of unparalleled growth.
