Talent show Saturday
The annual District Talent Show is this Saturday, 7 p.m., at the HCISD Performing Arts Center. Admission is $5 and all funds go to choir scholarships for seniors planning to major in music or high school students attending summer All State Choir Camp. Former graduates who received $1,000 scholarships include Kayla Pendergraft, Jessica Espinoza, Chelsie Lewis, Brittany Spong, Robbie Gibbons, Jennifer Becker, Sarah Schiess and others. At last count, this year’s show line-up includes 20 acts.
More FAFSA help available
“Financial Aid Saturday” is set for local high school seniors this Saturday, February 20, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at Lehman High School. Lehman hosts another session Saturday, March 6. The events are designed to assist seniors and their parents in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get financial aid for college.
Nutrition input invited
Hays CISD has posted a link on the district website inviting parent comments or questions regarding the school nutrition program. Under both the “parents” and “students” section, [email protected] offers the opportunity to share comments or questions directly with nutrition services.
Mustang makes great catch
Dahlstrom Middle School student Cary Clevenger has been recognized by his school as a hero for catching a two-year-old who accidentally fell out of a two-story window. Cary was riding by the toddler’s house on his skateboard, when he reached out and caught the child.
Hawks celebrate Seuss
Read Across America Week at Hemphill Elementary School will celebrate Dr. Seuss. Monday the Hemphill Hawks will wear their favorite hats, on Tuesday, funny socks are in order, backward shirts will be the norm Wednesday, and pajamas are highlighted Thursday. The week wraps up Friday with students wearing their favorite Dr. Seuss character costume to school.
Literacy fun at Science Hall
Academic Night at Science Hall Elementary is set for Thursday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m. With a goal of promoting literacy and increasing parental involvement, the event will include paper and cloth t-shirt decorating, poetry reciting, and word play with riddles and jokes.
